The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Yenagoa,Bayelsa
State has dismissd the petition filed by the Change Advocacy Party CAP
for lack of merit.
The Governorship candidate of Change
Advocacy Party CAP in the February 2012 election Dr Imoro Kubor has gone to the
tribunal seeking for the disqualification of Dickson on the grounds that he was
not qualify to contest for the position as the case was before an appeal court
in Abuja.
CAP also said in the
petition that Dickson was sued in a court in Abuja restraining him from
contesting in the February 2012 governorship polls and therefore was not
qualify for the polls.
Delivery the judgement by
a three man panel led by Muhammed Ibrahim said the court has no rights to
determined who a political party should sponsor in an election,the tribunal
however declared that the petition lacks merit and is hereby dismissed.
The tribunal noted that
the PDP submitted the names of the first respondent,Seriake Dickson as their
candidate to INEC for the 2012 polls in Bayelsa State.
According to the
judgement,whenever there is an intra party dispute before the court,the court
should seek the political party rules and regulations on selection of
candidates
Supporters of both parties besieged the court premises as early as seven
in the morning to witness the ruling amidst tight security checks.
