Reps threatens to impeach Goodluck



Members of the House of Representatives have threatened to commence impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan over poor implementation of the 2012 budget.

This followed a prolonged debate by the lawmakers on their last day of legislative duties before proceeding on recess.

In a highly emotional debate saw members decree the selective implementation of the budget and slow pace of releases from the ministry of finance.

The lawmakers have in the last four months critisised the handling of the budget by government agencies and ministries.

Minority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, had called for a full-fledged reprimand of the president on the issue.

House leader, Mulikat Adeola, called for caution while urging her colleaques to give the executive some time.
