The
Special Task force, STF operation safe Haven, saddled with the responsibility
of maintaining law and order in Plateau state says Sunday’s attack which
claimed the lives of Senator Gyang Dantong and Honable Gyang Fulani was not an
attack during any burial but but a sporadic shooting on the hills of the
surrounding village.
The STF
also denied that its troop ran away on hearing gun shots but that one of task
force personnel was on ground to assess the situation claiming that the
personnel were not under any effective fire.
In a
press conference this evening at the STF headquarters in Jos, the taskforce
media and information officer, Captain Salisu Mustapha said, the Late senator
was alive and conscious when he was rushed by the STF in their Patrol van to
the Barkin Ladi hospital.
The task
force is also claiming that the senator did not die at the scene of the
incident.
Simon
Mwadkom, representing Riyom/Barkin-Ladi federal constituency who survived
Sunday’s attack accused soldiers deployed to the scene of the incident
of doing little or nothing to protect them from the attacks and alleged that
the soldiers ran away when the gun fire by the suspected Fulani marauders
became intense.
