NATIONAL POLICE COUNCIL CONFIRMS MOHAMMED ABUBAKAR AS INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE; IG PROMISES MORE EFFECTIVENESS IN THE NIGERIA POLICE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM

The National Police Council on Thursday confirmed the appointment the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar reinforcing the confidence of the country in his positive actions in repositioning the force since he took over leadership 
The Inspector General of Police spoke with newsmen at State house, Abuja after being confirmed, giving assurances that he would provide the right leadership that would ensure justice and fairplay through effective management of security in the country. 
Despite the security challenges in the country, there has been a more professional approach to tackling the issue and Mr Abubakar is promising more vigour, efficiency and effectiveness in police service and performance now that he is in a stronger position to implement his ideas on tackling insecurity
And speaking on the elections in Edo state on Saturday, the Inspector General said men and material had been massively moved to Edo State to give the required safety and security so that voters could come out to cast their vote and discharge their service responsibility 
He also gave reassurances that the Police would fight bribery and corruption not only within its ranks but in the entire country in light with its constitutional responsibility 
Alluding to the investigation of bribery allegations emanating from the House of Representatives, Mr Abubakar explained that it was an ongoing case and successive progress had been made on it
The Inspector General of Police also gave insights into why he opposed the introduction of State Police despite increased calls for it in recent times due to the state of insecurity in the land
It was a recipe he said for confusion 
The welfare of Officers and men of the Nigeria Police remains a top priority for Mr Abubakar and he has promised that he is working with President Jonathan and the Police Council to address issues of welfare ranging from remuneration,
barracks and office accommodation, transportation to mention a few
