The lingering crisis between Government and
Electricity Workers reached a head on Friday as workers were locked out
of the Headquarters of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria in Abuja.
The workers in turn blocked all access routes to the building causing a traffic snarl in area particularly the roads leading to the Transcorp Hilton Hotel and Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The issues in contention have not changed, the workers are insisting that government must pay them severance packages before embarking on privatization of successor companies to which the PHCN has been unbundled.
Workers aiming to resume for duty at the Headquarters of the PHCN on Friday were prevented from accessing their offices by Soldiers acting on the request of Power Minister, Barth Nnaji.
Workers cannot argue with the guns in the hands of the heavily armed Military men, so they spill out on the streets in protest.
The resultant traffic snarl and massing on the streets is a source of great concern for the Police.
