US-Nigeria Bi-National Commission Meeting Opens In Port Harcourt



Key development issues bothering on the growth and development of Rivers State, Niger Delta and Nigeria will take centre stage tomorrow as representatives of the United States and the Nigerian Government converge on Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital for a two-day strategy meeting.

The meeting, which holds under the auspices of the US-Nigeria Bi-national Commission, will examine among others, issues of environment, Niger Delta and Regional Security Cooperation, Good Governance, Energy, Investment and Integrity.

A statement from the Office of the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari has it that the focus of the meeting is to build mutual cooperation across a broad range of shared interest between the United States and Nigeria.

According to the statement, “it is expected that the meeting in Port Harcourt would count definite benefits that would advance and set the parameters of the oil economy in the state on a fast developing pedestal”.

The meeting, which will have break-away sessions, will have in attendance representatives of the United States and Nigeria, some Nigerian Governors, Ministers, Stakeholders from the National and State Assemblies as well as policy drivers in strategic sectors of the economy.

The statement added that the meeting will be open for media coverage except in few cases where strategic issues brothering on security will be discussed.
