A total of 1,500 delegates are expected at the 12th National
Women Conference organized by the Council of Wives of Lagos State Officials
(COWLSO) and scheduled to hold from Tuesday, 30 October to Thursday, 1st November
at the Eko Convention Centre of Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Addressing the media on Monday about the forthcoming
conference at the Combo Hall, Lagos State Television (LTV) Agidingbi, the
Chairman and Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola
said Kaduna State Governor, Mr Patrick Yakowa will declare the conference open.
She added that Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregebsola
will be the special guest of honour at the closing ceremony of the conference
which has as its theme: “Women as Leaders”.
Some of the topics to be covered at the 12th National
conference are Female Leadership virtues by Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji –Bello
and Professor Sophie Oluwole, Leadership ethics by Dr Virgy Onyene,
Empowerment(Entrepreneurship) by the founder, Foundation for Skills
Development, Mrs Omowale Ogunrinde, and Enriching Women Through Network
Business Program by Ms Ime Enang.
Others are Empowerment (Wealth creation) by a business
consultant and human Resources Manager, Mrs Bolanle Alede -Akinduro, Balancing
Cash-less with financial Independence by national coordinator, Women in
Banking, Finance and Investment in Nigeria by Mrs Shade Lawal- Onabamiro,
Health and Beauty: Abuse of Medications by a Commissioner 3 with the Health
Service Commission, Mrs Kudirat Ligali, Health and Beauty: Living with
Menopause by a senior lecturer Cardio Vascular/ Renal Unit, Department of
Physiology, College of Medicine, Lagos State University, Dr Simiat Elias.
Also billed for discussion are topics on Dressing to Win by creative
director, Style house, Mrs Omoyemi Akerele, Protocol and Etiquette( Local and
International) by Dame Marie Fatai- Williams and Your Environ and You by the
Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Major Tunde Panox.
Dame Fashola added that the recipient of the Year’s
Inspirational Woman award will be presented by the Kaduna State Governor, Mr
Patrick Yakowa at the opening ceremony.
She also informed that the annual conference was initiated
to serve as a platform for Nigerian women to gather once a year to exchange
ideas on issues of common concern and to serve as a means of generating funds
through conference fees and sponsorships to execute programmes and projects in
support of government efforts.
The COWLSO chairman explained that over the past years,
COWLSO has delivered seven recreation centres in different parts of the state
namely Lafiaji Community Centre, Kudirat Abiola Freedom Square, formerly known
as Evans Square, Sam Shonibare Family Recreational Centre, Oshodi Sports
Centre, Oshodi, Beko Ransome-Kuti Playground, Anthony Village, Recreational
facilities for Agege and Recreational facilities for Oworonshoki.
Dame Fashola added that the Retirement Villa located at
Lekki Phase Two has been completed and would soon be handed over, stating that
it has gulped over N300Million which is the proceeds raised from all National
Women Conference organized by COWLSO in the last three years.
The press conference was attended by many members of the
Council of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) including Vice Chairman, Mrs
Mayowa Ikuforiji, Secretary, Mrs Azeezat Tijani and Chairman, Planning
Committee, Mrs Rhoda Ayinde amongst several others.
