Senate
President Senator David Mark has counselled the defeated governorship
candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), the Action Congress of
Nigeria(ACN) and others in the last Saturday's Ondo election not to
waste time going to tribunal to challenge the winner governor Segun Mimiko.
Mark, who stated this in Quebec, Canada,
where he is attending 127thInter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)
meeting, yesterday , said that the result of the election has confirmed
that the wishes of the Ondo people have prevailed.
"It would
therefore be an exercise in futility if some people goes to court to
challenge the outcome of the polls even with an overwhelming victory,"the
senate president stated.
Senator Mark canvassed that "we, Nigerian politicians must start
embracing the democratic culture where the power of the people as expressed
through the ballot is respected and seen as supreme".
According to him, Mimiko has worked hard to secure the
victory ,thus making sentiment canvassed by some politicians during the
campaign irrelevant as people preferred merit.
Also commenting, Deputy Speaker of
the House of Representatives,Sir Emeka Ihedioha said that the
result of the election in Ondo has shown that the people appreciates
performance.
According to
him, reports on ground before the election have shown that Mimiko had worked
hard for the people in his first tenure and that it was only good the people of
Ondo reward him with a second term in office.
