Election Petition Tribunal Dismisses Petition Challenging The Election Of Andy Uba

The Election petition Tribunal holding in Awka has dismissed the petition challenging the election of Senator Andy Uba, filed by Chuma Nzeribe for lack of merit.

Delivering the judgement, the Chairman of the Tribunal Justice G K Kaigama said the petitioners failed to establish the allegation of corrupt practices, falsification and over voting levelled against the election and declaration of Senator Andy Uba in the re-run election.

They resolved the two issues formulated for determination against the petitioner and awarded a cost of 50,000 naira each to the  three sets of respondents. Reacting, Counsel to Chuma Nzeribe, Okwy Ejezie said they will appeal the judgement, as the lower tribunal has failed to address various issues they raised during the Trial.

He said the judgement has made their case easier at the Appeal. On their parts, Counsels to the Respondents commended the erudite and well studied judgement of the Tribunal.

The petitioner Chuma Nzeribe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance based his pleadings on Uga in Aguata Local Government Area, Uri, Osumenyi and Ihiala and alleged that the re-run election was invalid by reason of corrupt practises, falsification, inducement, over voting and non compliance with the provisions of electoral Act 2010.
