Oyo approves procurement of N177 million drugs for hospitals

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has approved the procurement of essential drugs and medical consumables for free distribution to all public hospitals and health centres across the state.

A statement issued in Ibadan on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, said that this was after an approval of the sum by the State Executive Council.

According to him, the drugs, which would be supplied by 21 pharmaceutical companies within 30 days, would cost the state government the sum of N177,528,000.

The statement said that the drugs and medical consumables would be used in treating common but endemic diseases such as malaria and in reducing maternal and child mortality rate.

He explained that the procurement of the drugs was necessitated by the fact that the central medical stores at the Ring Road State Hospital, Ibadan had been out of stock and there was the need to to refill the stock.
