Rain Wash Of Four Bridges in Plateau

The four bridges leading in and out of Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State have been washed away floods which ensued after the torrential rains of the night of Monday 13th August, 2012.

Farmlands, livestock, business premises, roads, bridges, and even persons were swept away by the rampaging floods.

The Management Committee Chairman of Shendam Local Government Council, Comrade Nicholas Kemi Nshe, said the residents are devastated by the disaster which is the first o its kind in the locality.

He called on Nigerians and philanthropic organizations to come to the aid of the people.

The Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, Alhassan Barde, said all machinery have been set in motion to commence repairing the colossal damage done to social infrastructure by the floods of 13th August.

Residents can only enter and leave Shendam by canoe, with more operators cashing in on the business by recommissioning their old canoes.

Economic and social activities are going on uninhibited in the area but vehicular access to and from the place is a grave concern.
