Protest Broke Out In Benin Central Over Swearing In Of Elected Local Government Chairmen

Protest broke out in central Benin this morning over yesterday's swearing in of fourteen local Government Chairmen elected from Saturdays Council Polls.

Youths in their thousands blocked all entrants into the Kings Square chanting anti Government songs and asking that controversies surrounding the election be resolved before those elected are administered oath of office.

The protest took a different dimension when thugs led by a consultant to the state Government on revenue attacked the protesters with dangerous weapons inflicting serious wounds on them.

How ever Edo state Police command rose to the situation and promptly restored peace and order.

The police commissioner Mr Folorunso Adebanjo who personally supervised quelling of the protest warned the People to maintain peace and order asking those aggrieved to seek redress in Court.
