A Former Member of the House of
Representatives Chudi Office has dragged the a company owned by the family of
Governor Peter Obi, Next International Limited and six others to an Abuja
Federal High Court over allegations that the Sab Miller Breweries Cited in Onitsha was set up with 5 Billion Naira belonging to the state.
Also cited as defendants in the suit are
Initiative Beverages Limited, Sab miller Nigeria Holdings BV, Corporate Affairs
Commission (CAC) the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC).
In the suit filed through his Counsel Patrick
Ikwunma, SAN, Office is asking for a declaration that the brewery (Initiative
Brewery) established by the first defendant, Initiative Beverages Limited is a
benefit property of and wholly belongs to the government of Anayo State.
He also asked the court for an order directing the
1st,2nd and 3rd defendants (Initiative Beverages Limited, Sab miller Nigeria
Holdings BV, and Next International Nigeria Limited) to render full and
complete account of the operations including the costs for the establishment of
the brewery established with the monies of the government.
Office averted that at incorporation, the
shareholders/directors were, Mr Peter Gregory Obi ( the current Governor of
Anayo State and Ache Attah Ache, who was removed as a director of the company
on July 3rd 1996.
He alleged that Gov Obi purportedly resigned from
the company on March 15,2006 having been declared governor but since his
assumption of office his biological brothers have managed the affairs of Next
International Nig, Limited and the company has continued to function as a
family business of Mr. Peter Gregory Obi.
The matter has been assigned to Justice Maintained
who has fixed April 30th for hearing.
