EU Releases Over 130 Billion Naira Five Year Grant To FG For Micro Project In Niger Delta States

The European Union says it has released over one hundred and thirty billion naira as a five year grant to the Federal Government for commencement of micro project programme in nine Niger Delta states.

The EU Ambassador to Nigeria DAVID MACRAE announced the figure in Port Harcourt at the formal launching of the EU Assisted Micro Projects Programmes.

The EU Ambassador to Nigeria explained that the micro projects programme in nine Niger Delta States is an effort to reducing poverty through provision of infrastructural services and sustainable livelihood.

DAVID MACRAE said the EU will continue to partner with the Federal Government in the development of the Niger Delta states.

The Minister of National Planning, SAMSUDEEN OSMAN, represented by the Executive Secretary, national Planning Commission FIDELIS UGBO said benefiting states, local government and communities will provide counterpart funding for project to be embarked upon.
The Minister however stressed that all development projects must conform with the people standard.

Rivers State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, GOGO LEVI CHARLES said the first phase of the MPP9 scheme in Rivers State will commence with one hundred micro projects.
