President
Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday in Abuja launched the 'Rhythm N’ Play,' project
.reaffirming the commitment of Government
to the development of youth and grass roots sports development.
The
President invited State Governments and all other stakeholders, including the
private sector, to give full support to the realization of its objective.
The
President therefore directed the National Sports Commission and the Federal
Ministry of Education, to work in concert towards bringing physical education
back to schools and making participation in sports activities compulsory for
all pupils and students.
Explaining
further Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi said the programme would rely on the
use of music dance and celebrity to attract youths to sports.
Delta State
Governor Emmanuel Udughuan known for his love for sports expresses the hope
that with the President's involvement, the programme would work.
The project
is aimed at providing young Nigerians under the age of 17 years, with
structured programmes that combine sports and play as critical learning and
development tools.
