NUT Strike, ASUSS Opts Out

As Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT) continues the industrial action, Academic Staff Union of Secondary School(ASUSS) has stated clearly that it is not on strike.

Confusion seemed to have taken place in Ogun State as ASUSS dissociate itself from NUT  over the nationwide strike recently embarked upon by NUT.

Following the nationwide strike being declared by NUT as regards government refusal to pay the 27.5% peculiar allowance, there has been controversy in Ogun State as some secondary schools  resumed work while others were unable to carryout any activity because the students were not allowed entrance into the schools.

Comrade Folarin, who spoke with newsmen in Abeokuta, maintained that secondary school teachers in the state were not on strike as he claimed he went round the three geo-political zones in the state  to ensure that academic activities continued.
Newsmen reports that some individuals who identified themselves as NUT officials in the state had disturbed academic activities in some secondary schools and the students were sent home.

In his reaction to this disruption, ASUSS President in the state, Comrade Tunde Folarin, said that the union cannot join its counterpart saying issues that prompted the indusrial action was not in ASUSS' favour.

He assured students and teachers  of guaranteed security while stressing  that the union had reached agreement with the government over the said allowance as well as other issues that will improve their standard of living.
