President Goodluck Jonathan says
disagreements and healthy debate are an essential ingredient of democracy and
difference of opinion has helped to keep the People Democratic Party strong in
the last 14 years.
The
President spoke at State House Abuja during the PDP family forum which
stretched into the early hours of Friday.
Aside
from National Chairman Bamanga Tukur's garbled sometimes incoherent speech most
of the speakers at this event focused on what could be done to fix the many
schisms which were threatening the strength of the PDP.
Nevertheless
the party stalwarts agree that the party remained strong and had done well over
the last 14 years of democracy producing the government of the count
But
perhaps the most valid point of the night could be attributed to chairman of
the Board of Trustees Tony Anenih who said the controversy rocking the Nigeria
Governors Forum. Was an embarrassment that. Could not be allowed to stand.
But as
a true elder he balanced up, praising the party for doing well and advocating
for automatic ticket for the President, Lawmakers and Governors. going for 2nd
term in the 2015 polls.
President
Jonathan buttressing all that had been said all evening challenged PDP office
holders not to be deterred by the sometime harsh criticisms from the opposition
This
PDP family forum was an avenue for members of the PDP to interact and exchange
ideas.
They
admit that there are problems but believe the prospects are strong for the
ruling party.
