The FCTA Administration on Thursday flagged off this year's farming season with the distribution of 80 subsidized tractors under its Farmers' Empowerment Initiative.
The Administration also promised to procure ten more tractors and puts the total cost of procurement at 630 million naira.
The Minister of State for the FCT, Olajumoke Akinjide who launched the tractors in Gwagwalada Area council said each of the six Area Councils in the FCT would take delivery of 10 tractors.
The Minister said the initiative will address the perennial problem of agricultural mechanization by developing a vibrant and sustainable tractor service delivery under a Public Private Participation arrangement, adding that it would will afford the farmers the chance to form formidable cooperative groups capable of tapping into various federal government agro initiatives.
Correspondent, Sam Ogbeeifun reports that 14, 800 metric tons of assorted fertilizer has been procured for distribution to farmers under the Growth Enhancement Scheme.
