The competency test
ordered by the Edo government for teachers in public schools recorded low turn-out,
as many teachers refused to participate in the exercise which was
held today.
Reports say only seventy
three teachers were accredited at the University of Benin, one of the venues as
at eleven thirty a.m. for the test scheduled to hold simultaneously in the
three senatorial districts of the state.
The Secretary,
Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT Edo Chapter, Akinade Ojo told newsmen that
teachers were directed to boycott the test.
He said Six thousand
primary school teachers were expected to present themselves for the test in Edo
South, but less than one hundred teachers showed up.
