American Government Replies Abachas Over Criticisms To Soyinka - Freezes The Late Dictator's 458 Million Dollars

The United States has ordered a freeze on four hundred and fifty eight million dollars in assets stolen by Nigeria’s late former head of state General Sani Abacha and his accomplices.

The US Justice Department said the proceeds, stashed away in banks accounts in Britain, France and Jersey were frozen at Washington’s request with the help of local authorities.

In a civil forfeiture complaint unsealed in the US District Court in Washington the department wants to recover more than five hundred and fifty million dollars.

General Sani Abacha died in office in nineteen ninety eight.
