Senate Divides Over Rivers State Of Assembly Crisis, Mandates Its Committee To Investigate

The Senate has mandated its committee on States and Local Government Affairs to investigate the crisis rocking the Rivers House of Assembly and report back within one week.

The Senate which condemned the crisis also urged all parties involved to remain calm and refrain from any action that could lead to break down of law and order as well as destruction of democratic structures in the state.

The resolutions followed the adoption of Senate's Order 43 raised by Senator Magnus Abe representing Rivers South-East senatorial  district of Rivers state.

Senator Abe told the senate that the crisis has prevented the State House of Assembly from carrying out legislative activities in the last 63 days while accusing the state Commissioner of Police Joseph Mbu of complicity in the crisis.

However the senate was later sharply divided and vote on whether to direct the Inspector General of Police to redeploy Rivers State Police Commissioner or not.
