Rivers Government Sets Up Commission To Investigate Assembly Crisis

The Rivers State government has set up a nine man commission of enquiry to investigate last Tuesday’s crisis at the River State House of Assembly.

The committee is headed by Justice Biobele Georgewill of the Rivers State Judiciary and has the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Desmond Nwosu as a member.

The deputy governor of Rivers State who inaugurated the committee on behalf of the governor at the government house said the terms of reference of the committee include to investigate and ascertain the immediate and remote causes of the crisis as well as to ascertain the number of persons injured or threatened with injury.

He said the committee is also to identify those directly or indirectly involved in the crisis and make recommendation to government in order to find a lasting solution to the crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The deputy governor of Rivers State Tele Ikuru also charged the committee to be firm, courageous and sincere in its investigation.

In his response, the chairman of the committee Justice Biobele Georgewill promised that the committee would be fair to all sides in the crisis in order to restore peace at the Rivers State House of Assembly and the state at large.
