A local
community leader in Oraifite Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State,
Bonny Okonkwo was yesterday arrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force Special
Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) yesterday at his Amusa street residence Ilasa Lagos.
According to
an eye-witness account, men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad arrived at his residence at
5:00 Am, but the community leader was not available. He later returned around
9:00 Am and they subsequently arrested and flown him to Abuja.
Investigation
by our correspondent revealed that the arrest order was issued by the Inspector
General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar after a petition by business mogul Sir
Emeka Offor.
Emeka Offor
in his petition alleged that Bonny Okonkwo wrote series of email messages to
prominent Oraifite Indigenes accusing him of operating a kidnapping syndicate
in the South Eastern part of the country.
Further investigation
by our correspondent reveals that Bonny Okonkwo’s ordeals may not be unconnected
with the protracted leadership tussle between him and Emeka Offor over the soul
of Ifite-Oraifite Progressive Union (Lagos Branch).
