UNIBEN Disclaimer Over Claims Of Cure For HIV/AIDS

The management of the University of Benin UNIBEN has denied knowledge that Professor Isaiah Ibeh of the University has been queried and faces possible dismissal over a publication which claims he has developed a new drug that could cure HIV and AIDS.

A press statement by UNIBEN however dissociated the institution from the claims by the Dean, school of Basic Medical Sciences of the University adding that it considers the publicized claims as an embarrassment for not following laid down procedure.

The statement signed by Public Relations Officer of the ivory tower Harrison Osarenren said the institution appreciates the efforts of the researcher but explained that until all appropriate scientific process has been duly followed, the university cannot make any pronouncement on the research.

However, a release signed by him stated that the publication on the HIV/AIDS research findings was a misrepresentation of what actually transpired.

Professor Ibeh in the statement explained that some observations of the research are preliminary and still ongoing adding that he is sorry for the embarrassment the publications has caused the university and professional colleagues, realizing that there are procedures of reporting such scientific results.
