Attack on Emir of Kano: ANPP Wants Nigerians to Strengthen their Resolve for Inter-Religious Dialogue

The All Nigeria Peoples Party [ANPP] received with shock and sadness the news of the assassination attempt on the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, over the weekend by unknown gunmen while on his way back from an Islamic graduation ceremony [Saukan Karatu] which took place at Murtala Mohammed Mosque in Hausawa Quarters of Kano city; in which three of his aides and three others were killed and several others injured. We believe this distressing occurrence is a direct assault on the centuries-old traditional authority in our land, as well as the psyche of every peace-loving citizen of this great nation.

While we condemn the murderous and evil act, our great party commiserates with the good people of Kano Emirate, the government and people of Kano State, and indeed all Nigerians, for the lives lost, and the psychological trauma suffered over the unfortunate incident.

The ANPP calls on the security agencies not to leave any stone unturned in their investigations to unravel the plot and personalities behind the weekend attack. We also urge all Nigerians to view the unfortunate incident as a veritable stimulus to strengthen their resolve to engage in inter-religious dialogue, instead of as a psychological defeat. We also call on the Federal Government to channel more efforts towards inter-cultural assimilation and interfaith understanding, as it is now manifest that the evil forces fighting us have no defined loyalty, but is only driven by a diabolical intent to smite the shepherds and scatter the people. So, there is no better time than this to nurture a sense of oneness among the Nigerian citizens of different creeds and cultures.

As a party, we believe that with determination and responsible leadership, Nigeria shall surmount its present problems.
