The Imo state government has denied the allegation of
obtaining a 45 billion naira loan from zenith bank which has led to the
detention of the state's commissioner for finance, deacon chike okafor and the
accountant general of Imo state, Mr. George Eche by the economic and financial
crimes commission, EFCC.
Addressing journalists, the state's commissioner for information and strategy, Mr. Chinedu Offor described the allegation as entirely false, unfounded and another campaign of calumny designed to divert attention from the probe of the past PDP administration in the state.
He further stated that instead of obtaining any loan, the present administration has gone ahead to offset a 6.5 billion naira loan obtained by the past administration just 2 months to 2011 general elections and wondered why the EFCC is yet to investigate the allegation.
