THE Oyo state command of the Nigeria Police has nabbed no fewer than eight suspected Nigeria Telecommunication Limited (NITEL) and Power Holding Company Nigeria (PHCN) with cables worth N3.7 million..
The state Commissioner of Police, Tambuwa Yabo Muhammed, who disclosed this during press briefing said that they were arrested at different locations in the state, while two vehicles were impounded with the stolen goods.
He gave their names as Tunde Lawal, Jelili Adetokunbo, Biodun Bamiduro, Sakiru Baale (29), Yemi Onifade (25), Umejesi Roamnus, Taiwo Amao and Wahab Mutairu, adding that they would soon appear in court.
According to him, the Anti-Robbery patrol men attached to Eleyele Police Station and Skynet, intercepted one Ford transit bus with registration number XS 443 EPE at Ologuneru road, Eleyele, Ibadan on May 4 2012, .
On searching the vehicle, the police boss said some vandalized NITEL cables cut to size were discovered, adding that the suspects in their confessional statements confirmed that the cable stolen.
He said that further investigation revealed that the team took the team to remote bush where a large chunk of the vandalized and stolen materials were hidden.
Muhammed who spoke through his deputy, Clement Adoda, said that the suspects had named their receivers whose shops at Ogunpa were raided and some suspected vandalized cables as well as telecom batteries were recovered.
He said that on June 1 and 3 another suspects were arrested at Agugu area of the state capital by detectives from the command.
