Senate Postpones Debate On State Of Emergency Extension: Summons Security Chiefs.


The Senate has summoned the Ministers of Defence, the Minister of Police Affairs, the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs and the Inspector General Police to appear before it tomorrow.

They are to brief the Senators on the situation of things in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states which have been under a state of emergency in the last one year.


Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma Egba said the motion for the extension of the emergency rule should be stepped down until they have been briefed by the invited security officials.

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu who presided over today’s plenary said the Senate must be briefed on the effectiveness of the emergency rule in the three states in last one year, before deciding on whether or not to extend by another six months as requested by President Jonathan.
