WORLD WATER DAY


President Goodluck Jonathan's determination to make potable water available to the generality of Nigerians has been reiterated by the Plateau State Commissioner for Water and Rural Development, Idi Waziri.

Idi Waziri spoke in Jos at an event to mark the 2012 World Water Day.



Idi Waziri also assured that the one of the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals to make potable water available to the people will be attained before 2015.


The Commissioner said much must be done to reduce wastage of potable water as the population of the world increases putting a further strain on available water.



The theme of this year's Water Day is ''Water and Food Security'' and Mr. Waziri also highlighted the importance of water to agriculture.


The International World Water Day is observed every 22nd March and it was first observed in 1993 after the UN General Assembly had recognized its observance in 1992.
