The senate has
urged the Federal Government to grant a state funeral in honour of the late
sage, Chinua Achebe in order to promote and showcase excellence and his
positive contributions to Nigeria and the world.
The Upper Chamber
also urged the government to name a national monument and a major Highway or
Street after Chinua Achebe.
This followed the
adoption of a motion in honour of the late sage sponsored by Senator Chris
Ngige and 107 senators on the death of Achebe.
Leading debate on
the motion, Senator Ngige described Achebe as a world figure and a personality
who brought fame and prestige to Nigeria through his literary works.
