Asuu Strike Update: Negotiations With Government Ends In Deadlock Again

There seems no end in sight, for now , to the ongoing industrial action being embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU

On Tuesday, talks between the Federal Government negotiating team and the striking lecturers mediated by Governor Gabriel Suswan at the BENUE State Governor's lodge were inconclusive.

This much was admitted by Minister of Education who came to brief President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja after the meeting.

Benue state Governor Gabriel Suswan is at the head of the Presidential Committee set up to assess the needs of Federal Government tertiary institutions thus his stepping in to mediate between Federal Government and the striking lecturers

But even his charisma and the good will he enjoys could not convince the striking lecturers to rescind their decision to down tools.

For almost 4 years, President Jonathan has enjoyed relative industrial peace from ASUU, now the body is reminding the President that it has teeth to bite.

Minister of Education, tight lipped and looking flustered, admitted that much more negotiations still needed to be done.
