Senate Moves To Enact New Law On Corporate Negligence

A bill seeking to make it possible for companies to face legal action over corporate misdemeanor has passed through the second reading on the floor of the Senate after a prolonged debate by lawmakers.


The sponsor of the bill, Senator Pius Ewherido led the debate on a bill for an Act to Make Provisions Creating the Offence of Corporate Manslaughter and other matters, noting that the bill when passed into law will make corporate bodies, entities and agencies culpable for willful acts of negligence.

Other senators who commented on the new bill noted that it will send strong signal to corporate organisations operating tin the country that issue of negligence and corporate manslaughter will no longer be taken with levity.
