Ministry Of Agriculture To Distribute 10million Free Mobile Phones To Farmers In 2013



 The Ministry Agriculture and Rural development in collaboration with Information Communication Technology Ministry plans to distribute 10 million mobile phones for free to farmers across the country in 2013.

The minister of Agriculture, Akinwumni Adesina announced this at an interactive session with the private sector partners in the agriculture value chain aimed at supporting the agricultural transformation agenda of the federal government.

The Minister also announced far reaching reforms being planned for the agricultural sector which includes free distribution of seeds to framers and establishment of stable crop processing zones to encourage private sector investment

Some of the farmers that spoke during the session, lauded the efforts of the minister at repositioning the sector, however requested for more infrastructure and establishment of co-operative societies for farmers at the state level

20 million metric tons of food is being provided by the federal government to mitigate the effects of the recent flooding in the country in addition to ensuring farmers have access to single digit interest free loans from banks.
