YCE appoints Gen Adebayo Asiwaju of Yoruba Nation

The Yoruba Council of Elders, has ratified the appointment of the former Military Governor of Western Region, Major Gen Adeyinka Adebayo as the Asiwaju of Yoruba nation in Nigeria and in the diaspora.

The body also urged the Federal Government to diversify the country’s economy by investing heavily in the agricultural sector to bail the country out of economic woes.

This was contained in a communiqué jointly issued and signed by its President General, Major Gen Adeyinka Adebayo, Secretary General, Chief Idowu Sofola SAN at the end of its general Assembly held in Ado Ekiti

Bemoaning the state of finances of the Southwestern States in the recent time, YCE called for immediate review of allocation Formula by the Federal Government to allow the States in the Region to carry out capital projects that can positively impact on the lives of the citizenry.

Fayemi, who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Mrs Funmi Olayinka, hinged the pervasive infrastructural decay in the region on greed and avarice on the parts of the few privileged citizens of the Region.

The Governor solicited valued supports of the elders for the Regional integration initiative of the Western Nigeria states, saying their
unalloyed supports will fast-track the smooth take off of the initiative.

The body also regretted the consistent bombing and killing of innocent Nigerians in the Northern Part of the country, urging the Federal
Government to devise means of curtailing this dreaded monster for the nation to remain as an indissoluble entity.

However, YCE regretted the consistent relegation of Yoruba nation in political appointments and infrastructural development in the country, saying the scenario has engendered wanton neglect of the people and dilapidated public utilities.

Describing the lopsidedness as unacceptable, the Elders’ Forum called on prominent indigenes in the Southwest Region to forget about political consideration and work assiduously to ensure that the region is launched back to reckoning in all spheres.

The State Chief Executive added further that, No time is better than now for the Yorubas, the proud descendants of Oduduwa to go back to their inner recesses and have a deep reflection on how to unite and reposition themselves to occupy their rightful places in the Nigerian federation.
