MARKET WOMEN STORM MIMIKO’S OFFICE TO PLEDGE SUPRPORT FOR HIS SECOND TERM BID



The national and Ondo state leadership of Traders and Markets Leaders of Nigeria have declared their support for the second term bid of the Ondo state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko. The endorsement is coming barely two days after the entire workforce of the State openly threw their weight behind the second -term bid.
The national leadership of the Association led by its founder and President, Alhaja Adetutu Odunsi, accompanied by the state president of market women, Chief (Mrs) Julianah Ogunsusi and the market leaders in twenty-six states of the federation paid a solidarity visit to the Governor at his Alagbaka Office in Akure to publicly declare their support and readiness to ensure his victory in the October 20, 2012 gubernatorial election in the State.
Alahaja Odunsi noted that Dr Mimiko’s antecedents in public offices both at the state and national levels and his positive impacts on the lives of the people of the country, coupled with the unprecedented development of the state through his people-oriented programmes are clear testimonies and qualifications for his re-election.
The market leader assured that market women in the state would vote en-masse for the Governor, stressing that arrangements have been concluded for mass mobilization of women for the purpose.
In his response, Governor Olusegun Mimiko expressed appreciation to the women for their solidarity and support.
Dr Mimiko, who maintained that the development of any nation cannot be achieved without the inputs of women as the backbone of families, said his administration’s programmes in the health, education and infrastructure are all targeted at transforming the socio-economic landscape of the state and to bring succour to the people.
The Governor assured women in the state of more empowerment programmes to better their lives.
He said “When you are talking of development of any nation, the role of women cannot be underestimated. Women are the backbone of the nation, they are the pillars of the family. Women are the engine room of the family. When you uplift a woman, you are uplifting a family”.
He added “I want to tell you that whatever we do for women, indirectly, we are doing it for the men as well as the society. I want to thank you for this solidarity and support and I promise that we will not disappoint you. We are poised to add values to the lives of our people and never shall we look back. No amount of intimidation we deter us from taking this state to the next level”.
