The Senate has summoned
the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar to appear before it over the
crisis in Rivers State.
The Senate took the
decision following a debate on a motion brought by Wilson Ake from Rivers State
on the disruption and obstruction of political gatherings by the police.
He said the disruption of
peaceful gathering by the police in the state would create anxiety and lead to
further loss of confidence in the security system.
The debate led to a rowdy
session after Senators James Manager and George Sekibo opposed the motion on
the grounds that those who were asked to visit Senator Magnus Abe have not sent
in their report.
In his ruling, Senate
President cautioned all parties to the crisis in Rivers.
