A Federal Capital Territory
High Court in Maitama has discharged and acquitted a former National Chairman
of the PDP, Vincent Ogbulafor of the entire seventeen counts of fraud relating
to contract verification exercise in two thousand and one.
The second accused person,
Emeka Ebila who was, then Secretary of the National Economic Intelligence
Committee, the body tasked with the verification exercise was convicted and sentenced
to prison for the offences
Justice Ishaq Bello in his
judgement held that there was no nexus between Vincent Ogbulafor who was the
Minister of Special Duties when the offences were committed and the crimes.
Justice Bello said Emeka
Ebila’s confessional statement tendered before the court without any objection
was a corroboration of the allegations levelled against him.
