The leader of Boko Haram
sect, Abubakar Shekau has debunked claims by Nigeria Defence Headquarters that
he was killed last month in Kodunga, Borno State.
Shekau said in a new video
obtained by AFP in which he was seen
firing weapons that the
militants had implemented strict Islamic law in captured towns.
You may recall that the
Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said Last week,
during a news conference in Abuja that the corpse of the insurgents’ leader was
identified by the people of Kodunga.
Major General Olukolade
said that Shekau whose real name was Mohammed Bashir had used other
names like Abacha Abdullahi Geidam and Damasack.
The military said Shekau
was dead and that a man who had been posing as the group’s leader in videos had
been killed after fighting with troops in the far northeast.
