Governor Fayemi’s Concession To Defeat Was A Propaganda - Fayose


The Ekiti State governor-elect, Ayo Fayose has said that the concession of incumbent governor Kayode FayemI to defeat was a propaganda stunt aimed at eliciting public sympathy.


He told newsmen in Abuja that although governor Fayemi at the weekend conceded defeat publicly and congratulated him, the governor had not picked calls from him since then.

Uruguay participation at the on-ongoing World Cup has suffered a huge set back as start striker, Luis Suarez has been handed a four month ban which rules him out of the event.

The Liverpool striker was suspended this afternoon from all football related activities following his bite on Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in their last group game match which Uruguay won one-nil.

FIFA’s independent disciplinary committee imposed the ban after finding Suarez guilty of misconduct.


The twenty seven year-old father of one is also handed nine international match ban and sixty-thousand seven hundred pounds fine.

Police Confirms 21 Persons Dead From Wednesday’s Bomb Attack In Abuja



The Nigerian security agencies have confirmed that twenty one persons died while seventeen others who sustained injuries are receiving treatment at various hospitals following the bomb explosion at Emab Shopping Complex in Abuja Yesterday. 

A Statement by the police spokesman Frank Mba hinted that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered increased security presence and surveillance in and around Abuja.

It stated that security Forces are taking measured steps to strengthen all soft targets and critical infrastructure in a bid to improve overall public safety in and around the FCT.

Explosion Rocks A Tank Farm In Lagos


An explosion has occurred at the Folawuyio tank farm on creek Road, Apapa, Lagos.

The Director of fire service in Lagos, Rasak Fadipe said he was told that there were causalities in the blast.


He told our correspondent that operators of the Tank Farm prevented fire servicemen from entering the facility to determine the cause of the blast.

Reps Mandates Committee To Investigate Alleged Searching Of Aminu Tambuwal Speaker


The House of Representatives has mandated some of its committees to investigate Monday’s alleged searching of Speaker Aminu Tambuwal’s official vehicle in Kaduna.

Some soldiers allegedly insisted on searching the official vehicle of the Speaker at a public function.

The Committees are expected to report back to the House within one week.

The resolution followed a motion by a member of the House, Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi.

I Will Work With Fayemi And Bamidele - Fayose


The Governor-Elect in Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose has promised to work with Governor Kayode Fayemi and Opeyemi Bamidele to develop the state.

Ayo Fayose told newsmen in Ado-Ekiti that there was no winner or loser in the election.

He said Governor Fayemi has called him to concede defeat, and saluted the governor’s courage for accepting him and his readiness to allow peace to reign in Ekiti.

Fayose's And Eagles Victory Are Signs Of Nigeria's Unfolding Greatness - President Jonathan


President Goodluck Jonathan has described the Ekiti State’s governorship election and the Super Eagles’ victory at the ongoing World Cup as signs of Nigeria’s unfolding greatness.

The President made this known after his investiture as the Grand Patron of the Boys Brigade of Nigeria in Abuja today.

President Jonathan also congratulated the Governor-Elect of Ekiti State on his overwhelming victory in the election in Ekiti.


He urged Ayo Fayose to be humble and magnanimous in victory and commit himself to forming an administration that would work for the advancement of the interests of all Ekiti people irrespective of their political affiliations or loyalties.

PDP Attributes Party's Victory To Internal Democracy


The PDP has in the meantime attributed its victory at the just-concluded Ekiti State governorship election to its strict adherence to the principles of internal democracy.

The party in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, congratulated Ayo Fayose and described his victory at the election as well deserved.

The statement further attributed PDP’s victory to the transparent conduct of its governorship primary which produced a popular candidate that was the choice of party members.


It thanked the people of Ekiti for their support and urged the governor-elect to ensure an all-inclusive administration that would revamp and reposition the state.

Fayemi Concede Defeat, Congratulate Fayose


The Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi has congratulated Ayo Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party for winning yesterday’s governorship election in the state.

Governor Fayemi, who congratulated the governor-elect in a broadcast to the people of the state in Ado Ekiti said he would be meeting with Ayo Fayose tomorrow to discuss the future of Ekiti and how to institute a smooth transition programme.


The governor said all the lapses noted during the election would be documented and sent to appropriate quarters for action.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, has congratulated Ayo Fayose on his emergence as the governor-elect of Ekiti state followings his victory in Saturday’s election in the state.

Aminu Tambuwal also congratulated Governor Kayode Fayemi for conceding defeat.


He said Governor Fayemi’s action to congratulate his opponent was a clear proof that the country’s politics is imbibing standard global practices associated with electioneering process.

FG Withdraws Charges Of Receipt Of Stolen Property Against Muhammed Abacha.


The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke has withdrawn the four hundred and forty six point three billion naira theft charges instituted against Mohammed Abacha, a son of a former Head of State, late General Sani Abacha

The Federal Government had preferred the nine count charge of theft against Mohammed Abacha in February this year.

The Attorney-General acting for the Federal Government asked the court to discharge the case on the grounds of fresh facts that has emerged.

 The prosecution had accused Mohamed Abacha of unlawfully receiving the money allegedly stolen from government’s coffers between nineteen ninety five and nineteen ninety eight.


Justice Mamman Kolo of the FCT High Court after hearing both sides made an order striking out the charges against Mohammed Abacha.

Adamawa State Assembly Set To Impeach Governor Nyako And His Deputy.


The Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Ahmadu Fintiri has directed the clerk of the House to serve Governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Bala Ngilari notice of impeachment for gross misconduct.

The development followed a motion on constitutional matter raised by the Deputy Speaker, Laori Kwamoti citing section one eighty-eight of the constitution and a document containing allegations of gross misconduct against the governor which he said was signed by nineteen of the twenty five members of the assembly.


Alhaji Abdulazeez Arisekola Alao Is Dead


The Aare Muslumi of Yorubaland and Deputy President General of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Abdulazeez Arisekola Alao is dead.

He died at the age of sixty-nine in a London hospital.

His eldest daughter, Khadijat also confirmed the death.


He is expected to be buried in Ibadan, Oyo State tomorrow.

Court Re-Instates Victor Umeh As National Chairman Of APGA.


The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reinstated Victor Umeh and Sanni Shinkafi as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

The court also set aside the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which sacked them and the entire leadership of the party.

The Appeal Court held that the first respondents Maxi Okwu has no locus standi to have instituted the suit having been expelled from the party.

It also berated Justice Abdul Kafarati of the Federal High Court for assuming jurisdiction in the matter.


Victor Umeh in his reaction commended the judgement.

Sanusi Moves To His Palace



The new emir of Kano Lamido Sanusi has moved to his palace after he was earlier prevented from gaining entry by security officials
He was led into his new home by a retinue of armed policemen, palace guards, friends and other well-wishers.

The Emir drove into the palace in the official vehicles of the emirate via a newly constructed gate built in his honour in line with tradition.


The new Emir led the late evening prayers inside the palace mosque after which dozens of his subjects watched in admiration as palace guards gave him traditional gun salute.

PDP Congratulates APC’s New Leadership.




The leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has congratulated the new leadership of the main opposition political party, the All Progressives Congress.

The PDP charged them to ensure a vibrant opposition devoid of bitterness, desperation and divisive tendencies.

The party also advised the new leadership to ensure an issue-based opposition that will purposefully and constructively engage and challenge the PDP with decency and maturity as prescribed by democratic tenets and principles.

Make Africa Proud In Brazil- President Jonathan Tells Eagles

President Goodluck Jonathan has promised to surprise the Super Eagles with quality rewards if they make a major impact at the twenty fourteen World Cup.

Senate President David Mark, who led a Federal Government delegation to the Eagles camp in Campinas, conveyed the President’s message to the players.


David Mark said the President is confident that an African country can win the World Cup this time.

Akunyili Was A Diligent, Public Spirited And Forthright Public Servant - President Jonathan


President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed sadness at the news of the sudden and untimely death of Professor Dora Akunyili.

The President in a statement by his spokesman, Reuben Abati, believed that Professor Akunyili would live long in the memories of those who were privileged to know her as a diligent professional, a public-spirited and forthright public officer, and as a person of great convictions.


He said he considered the deceased’s contributions to nation-building while she served as the Director

General of NAFDAC as well as Minister of Information and Communications, invaluable.

FG Is Not Against Press Freedom - Doyin Okupe



The Presidency has  described as isolated incidents of security checks carried out on some newspaper delivery fans in the last few days in parts of the country which in no way inhibits press freedom.



Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe in Abuja explained that the check being carried out by the military on major Nigerian roads and cities is not targeted at newspaper vans because of the contents of the publications as is being insinuated in media reports. 

Dora Akunyili Was A Consummate And Energetic Administrator - PDP



The Peoples Democratic Party PDP has described the late Minister of Information, Professor DOra Akunyili, as a consummate and energetic administrator who excelled in all assignments given to her.

A statement issued by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh said the ruling party received the news of the death of the former minister and ex-Director-General of NAFDAC with deep sadness.


The statement said professor Akunyili will always be remembered by all as a fearless Nigerian, a great African and an Amazon who risked her life severally to save the lives of others.

APC Say Federal Government Siege On Newspapers Is A Battle The Jonathan Administration Cannot Win.


The All Progressives Congress APC has condemned what it called the unreasonable siege on newspapers across the country by security agencies, warning that the Jonathan Administration has taken on a battle it cannot win by tampering with press freedom.
 
 In a statement issued by its Interim National Publicity Secretary Lai Mohammed, the party said the President failed to learn the lessons of history that the Nigerian media can neither be intimidated nor suppressed by anyone, and that all those who tried to do so in the past lived to regret their actions.

 It wondered why a government that is being asked to diligently prosecute the war on terror is instead vehemently waging a war on the media and using the security agencies to interfere with the country's democracy.

Sanusi Lamido New Emir Of Kano


Former CBN governor, Lamido Sanusi Lamido has been announced as the new Emir of Kano.

This information was confirmed by the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Rabiu Sulaiman.



His appointment followed the death of the former Emir Alhaji Ado Bayero.

Gombe Gets New Emir


The Gombe State Government has approved the appointment of Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar as the new Emir of Gombe.

The Secretary to the State Government Abubakar Bage, presented the letter of appointment to the new emir at the Gombe Central Mosque yesterday.


Shehu-Abubakar will be coronated as the eleventh Emir of Gombe to succeed his late father, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar who died in a London hospital on May twenty seven.

Nigerian Police Gets Self-Accounting Status

The Federal Government has granted the Nigerian Police Force self-accounting which takes it out of the financial control of the Ministry of Police Affairs.


The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar announced this during a workshop for police finance officers while calling for increased professionalism, transparency and prompt payment of salaries and emoluments of police personnel.

The police boss said as a step towards buildings the necessary infrastructure for a smooth operation of the new status, the force would take necessary measures towards ensuring that finance and account units, at all levels of the police, are staffed with officers with requisite accounting and professional backgrounds.

Nigerian Guild Of Editors Reject Military’s Excuse For Seizing Consignment Of Newspapers.


The Nigerian Guild of Editors has said that it is scandalized and shocked by the conduct of security agents, particularly the military which laid siege to the roads round the country and seized consignments of newspapers meant to be sold to the general public.

The crackdown, according to the guild lasted throughout the morning hours, causing huge economic losses to the publishing houses.

The body of senior journalists rejected the explanation of the military that the raid was occasioned by a certain security report it got.

The Nigerian Guild of Editors said the media do not bear arms, rather it bears information which sheds light on darkness no matter how seemingly impenetrable the darkness is.

Nigeria Set To Launch National Carrier


The Supervising Minister of Aviation, Doctor Samuel Ortom has said that the country would soon launch a national carrier.

Doctor Ortom made the disclosure during ceremonies to mark Kenya Airways inaugural flight operation to Abuja.

He said that necessary contacts and plans had been concluded to ensure the quick realisation of the goal.


The minister said the commencement of Kenya Airways direct flight operations to Abuja was a landmark achievement for the airline in its network expansion programme and the effort of the ministry for providing the travelling public more travel options.

The All Progressives Congress APC has expressed shock and sadness at the death of the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, saying his demise came at a time that his great wisdom and wealth of knowledge were much needed to help Nigeria to surmount its challenges.

In a statement issued in Lagos by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said the late Emir was a symbol of peace and unity in his lifetime, reaching far beyond ethnic and religious divide to help foster a united Nigeria.


It said the Emir's long and remarkable reign that spanned over half a century marked a period of prolonged peace and prosperity for his domain, which was a testimony to his much-revered leadership qualities and his uncommon humanity.

Coroners Inquest Into Dana Plane Crash Releases Its Report.


A Coroners’ inquest instituted by the Lagos State Government to investigate the third of June, twenty twelve, Dana plane crash has concluded hearing but did not give a definite verdict on the cause of the crash.

The Coroner, Oyetade Komolafe, said he could not give a verdict on the crash due to the absence of the Accident Investigation Bureau report.

He said the testimony of the pathologist, Professor John Obafunwa, however, showed that one hundred and fifty-three passengers died in the crash which occurred at Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos.


The coroner also noted that the bodies of both the pilot and co-pilot could not be identified to ascertain whether they were under the influence of alcohol.

8 LASU Students Arraigned In Court For Alleged Breach Of Public Peace At Oshodi.


Eight students of the Lagos State University, LASU including three female students have been charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court over alleged breach of public peace.

The accused are facing a one count charge of breach of public peace.

The prosecutor, ASP Samson Ekikere told the court that the students who were protesting a hike in their school fees, caused discomfort to motorists plying the Lagos Abeokuta expressway.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charge were granted bail in the sum of ten thousand naira each with one responsible surety by the Chief Magistrate, Eniola Fabamwo.


The case was adjourned until August six for mention.

NNPC Completes Repair Work On Vandalised Pipelines In Arepo; Commence Full-Capacity Fuel Supply.


The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC says it has fixed the vandalized pipelines that were vandalized at Arepo in Ogun state.

The Group General Manager of Corporation, Ohi Alegbe disclosed that fourteen suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the incident.


He said the corporation have commenced pumping of fuel at the maximum capacity of the line.

President Jonathon Nominates Ibrahim Shekarau, 3 Others As Ministers.

President Goodluck Jonathan has forwarded the names of four new ministerial nominees to senate for confirmation. 

Their names were contained in a letter to the President of the senate and was read on floor of the upper legislative chamber by senator David Mark. 


They are Doctor Abdul Bulama from Yobe state and former Governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau to represent Kano state. 


Others are Prince Adedayo Adeyeye from Ekiti state and Stephen Oruh from Delta state. 


Kwara and Anambra states are yet to get ministerial nominees. 



The senate is yet to fix a date for their screening and confirmation.
