JONATHAN FORWARDS FIRST FEMALE JUSTICE TO SENATE FOR CONFIRMATION AS CHIEF JUSTICE OF NIGERIA


President Goodluck Jonathan has  forwarded the name of Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar for confirmation as Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Jonathan in a letter dated July 3rd 2012 titled: Appointment of Chief Justice of Nigeria which was address to President of the Senate, David Mark urged the lawmakers to expeditiously attend to his request.

He said that the request was in conformity with section 231 sub- section (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Correspondent Tijani Yinusa reports that Mukhtar who is the first female CJN is to replace Justice Dahiru Musdaphar who is retiring this month.

  Meanwhile, in a related development President Jonathan also forwarded the names of Justice Kumai Bayang Akaah (North West Zone) and Justice Stanley Shenko Alagoa (South South Zone) for confirmation as Justices of the Apex Court.

The President said that their appointment have been necessitated by the impending retirement from service of Justice Dahiru Musdapher, and Justice F. F. Tabai from the Supreme Court.
