The Economic Management Team rose from a 6 hour meeting on Tuesday night resolving to make more.funds available to strengthen linkages between standard regulatory bodies like the standards Organization of Nigeria, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and control and the Nigeria Customs Service
This will reduce the import and production of substandard
goods and products and protect local manufacturers and consumers
At the end of the day, the controversy over the status of
Arunma Oteh of the Security Exchange Commission and her eligibility to attend
meetings of the team was laid to rest
After she was taken out of the system about a month ago to
allow for an independent investigation into allegations of financial profligacy
leveled against her, Ms Oteh went underground
On Tuesday, she reappeared creating confusion even among
protocol personnel at State House, Abuja as in what capacity she was attending
the Economic Management Team, especially since an Acting Director General had
been appointed
At the end of 6 grueling
hours, the controversy over the status of Ms Oteh was laid to rest by
Coordinating Minister of the economy, Ngozi Okonjo-iweala
